Compare accepted terms, not just brochures
Your existing cover includes the policy wording and the terms specifically accepted for you. A new insurer's standard brochure does not show the outcome of your next medical assessment. Keep the documents side by side and distinguish quoted benefits from accepted benefits.
Resolve the unknowns in writing
Before cancellation, check acceptance, exclusions, start date, waiting periods and the position of any ongoing treatment. Make sure there is a clear plan for timing. An application is not proof of cover. A verbal expectation is not a replacement for the insurer's written decision.
Ask why staying might be better
A useful second opinion should be able to recommend retention. Ask the adviser to explain the strongest reason for staying, the strongest reason for changing and the unresolved points. You are buying a sustainable insurance decision, not merely a different price.
